(Carroll County, Ky.) - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of an upcoming resurfacing project on Interstate 71 in Carroll County scheduled to begin Friday, Aug. 8.
The project will resurface the entire 14.6 mile stretch of I-71 in Carroll County, from the Trimble County line (mile point 38.8) to the Gallatin County line (mile point 53.4), a distance of 14.6 miles. Resurfacing operations will be limited to the mainline interstate. Shoulders and on/off ramps will not be included with this project.
Weekend Blitz for Base Repairs
Crews will begin by addressing base pavement failures during a concentrated weekend period. Lane closures will span no more than six miles at a time according to the following schedule:
-
Friday, Aug. 8: Beginning at 8 p.m., the northbound left lane will be closed for base repairs. Upon completion, the closure will shift to the northbound right lane.
-
Saturday, Aug. 9: Around noon, crews will transition to the southbound left lane.
-
Sunday, Aug. 10: During early morning hours, the closure will move to the southbound right lane.
All lane closures will be removed by 8 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 11.
Motorists should seek alternate routes when possible to avoid potential delays.
This schedule is tentative and subject to modification based on weather conditions or the pace of work. If crews progress ahead of schedule, lane closures may occur earlier than initially planned.
These base repairs will be given approximately one week to cure before resurfacing begins.
Milling and Paving to Follow
After the cure period, crews will return to begin milling and paving operations on Monday, Aug. 18. Resurfacing work is expected to take place nightly from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. requiring a single lane closure during working hours. All lanes will reopen at 8 a.m.
Additional traffic impacts will be shared through our District 6 Roadshow and social media channels as the project progresses.
A reduced speed limit of 55 MPH will be enforced throughout the work zone, with law enforcement on-site to ensure compliance.
No lane closures will be permitted during the Labor Day and Thanksgiving holiday weekends.
Louisville Paving Company Inc. is contracted to perform the $4.6 million project on behalf of KYTC. The project has an expected completion date of Nov. 30.
