Madison, Ind. — The City of Madison announced today a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the approval of the northern approach at the Madison Municipal Airport. The public is invited to join President of the Madison Board of Aviation Dick Goodman, Madison's Mayor Bob Courtney, and Congressman Greg Pence for the ceremony.

"In the past, Madison Municipal Airport had instrument approaches only to Runway 03. If the wind favored landing in the opposite direction (Runway 21), the only maneuver was to circle to land. Circle to land at minimum ceilings is the most dangerous legal maneuver," said Goodman.  After eight years of negotiations and the assistance of Congressman Pence, flights are now authorized to land safely in either direction.

"We hope the community will join us in celebrating the recent approval, which would not have been possible without the assistance of Congressman Pence and his team and the perseverance of the airport board and staff," said Mayor Courtney. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 21, 2021, at the Madison Municipal Airport located at 3919 W. IMS Lane in Madison, Indiana.
