State Road 256 east of Austin is scheduled to reopen for the winter months on Monday (Dec. 16), weather permitting. Indiana Department of Transportation contractor Milestone Contractors resumed work on the nearly $18 million, multi-phase reconstruction project this past April.
The project includes rebuilding and widening S.R. 256 between U.S. 31 and S.R. 203 in Scott County, in addition to replacing the bridge over Hutto Creek, intersection realignment at Coffee Pot Road and adding a center left turn lane at S.R. 203.

Crews will complete temporary striping and guardrail installation through the remainder of this week and the weekend before opening the roadway.
The completion date for the entire project is October 2021, but work is currently progressing ahead of schedule. S.R. 256 will close again in early spring 2020 for the project to continue.
