By Scott County Health Department, news release

If you have trouble breathing or shortness of breath go to the nearest Emergency Room immediately.

(Scott County, Ind.) - The Scott County Health Department has been monitoring novel coronavirus (COVID-19) cases since Scott County’s first case nearly 7 months ago. In the last 14 days, there have been 84 new cases in the county. When numbers are increasing at this alarming rate, stricter restrictions must be considered. Here are some very important reminders to help bring the community spread of COVID-19 down and protect our community.

Know the symptoms and get tested
Symptoms include; shortness of breath, sore throat, congestion, runny nose, fever, cough, diarrhea, headache, nausea, vomiting, body aches, fatigue, chills, and loss of taste or smell.

Some of these symptoms can easily be ignored and assumed to be allergies or a cold. Since we are in the middle of a global pandemic no symptoms should be ignored or taken lightly, especially if more than one symptom is present. Testing is available at the local armory and a new site in the old health department building beside Scott Memorial Hospital.

How to stop the spread of COVID-19
Wear a mask. Masks are proven to prevent the spread of this virus.
Hash your hands and use sanitizer.
If you are sick stay home. Keep your children home from school if they are sick. Contact their school for instructions when they can return.
If you are sick and also waiting for your COVID-19 test result or your result is pending do not attend work, social event, school or any other time of gathering where you could infect others.
Inform close contacts to quarantine for 14 days.
Quarantine for the entire time that is required.

Isolation and Quarantine Guidelines
Isolation is for those who have been diagnosed with COVID-19. They should be completely separated from all others for 10 days.
If you were in contact with a positive case you should quarantine for 14 days. Why 14 days? Studies have shown it can take up to 14 to show symptoms after being exposed to COVID-19.
What if I get tested and I am negative can I be released from quarantine? NO. You can be tested too early. We recommend waiting a week after being exposed to be tested.
If you are a caregiver or parent of a COVID-19 positive case your quarantine could be longer- contact the health department for more information.

We advise contacting your family or primary care provider if you have questions specific to your condition. If you have trouble breathing or shortness of breath go to the nearest Emergency Room immediately.
