Traffic Stop Leads to Arrests, Opens Burglary Investigation

(North Vernon, Ind.) - Two arrests were made after Jennings County Sheriff's deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in North Vernon last Thursday. 

The stop was initiated around 2:37 p.m. after a vehicle was observed committing an infraction. 

During the stop, K-9 Hurley was requested due to suspicion of criminal activity. Hurley alerted to the odor of narcotics inside the vehicle, prompting a search of the vehicle. During the search, deputies allegedly located methamphetamine inside the vehicle. 

During the investigation, passenger Trinity Bennett advised deputies she had multiple illegal items hidden inside of her person. At the Jennings County Jail, two hypodermic needles, multiple individual "bindles" of a white powdery substance, and approximately 2.5 grams of suspected Fentanyl were located.

The investigation also determined that Bennett and driver Shane Kimbler were suspected of having just burglarized a residence in North Vernon. Items believed to have been taken during the burglary were located inside the vehicle. 

Kimbler and Bennett were transported to Jennings County Jail. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be forthcoming.
