TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO METHAMPHETAMINE ARREST

300 block of Clifty Drive

On December 29, 2018, Patrolman Jordan Bowles conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 300 block of Clifty Drive for a traffic infraction. During the stop, Patrolman Bowles came into contact with the driver, identified as Shibhan K. Crooks age 33. During the course of the traffic stop, Deputy Ben Flint, with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, had his K-9 partner Miko arrived on scene. Deputy Flint conducted an open-air search of the vehicle using his K-9 partner, which yielded a positive alert.

A subsequent search was conducted of the vehicle. During the search, officers located scales, a glass smoking pipe, and numerous plastic bags containing approximately 14 grams of a crystal like substance. The crystal like substance later field-tested positive for methamphetamine. Crooks was placed under arrest and transported to the Jefferson County Jail.

Also assisting were MPD Captain Bruce Heaton, Sgt. Shawn Scudder, Patrolman Brian Ashcraft, Detective Kyle Cutshaw, and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy Zach Nicholson.

Preliminary charges:
Possession of methamphetamine – Level 4 felony
Possession of paraphernalia – C misdemeanor
