Trimble County Courthouse to Implement New Security Measures

Create a more secure and manageable environment for the courthouse

New security measures are being implemented at the Trimble County Courthouse effective Monday, March 30, with public access limited to the south entrance.

The secured entrance is at the doors closest to the Trimble County Clerk’s office and is adjacent to the courthouse's handicap accessibility ramp, which will continue to be available for use as needed.

“The safety of our citizens, staff, and elected officials is our top priority,” said Trimble County Sheriff Greg Clifford. “We understand that change can be an adjustment, but these upgrades are necessary to ensure a secure and welcoming environment for everyone who enters the Trimble County Courthouse.”

In addition to public access now directed only through the south entrance, other key security changes include:

• A security screening station will be in place at the South Entrance.

• All visitors will be required to pass through a magnetometer (metal detector) each time they enter the building.

• Individuals using the handicap-accessible ramp will be subject to screening via a hand-held wand for safety and convenience.

The changes follow recommendations from a recent Security Assessment conducted on the courthouse. The unified entrance strategy and screening measures are intended to create a more secure and manageable environment for the courthouse. It's a system already in use at most courthouses in Kentucky as well as the Jefferson County Courthouse in Madison.
