Update: Paris Crossing Woman Charged With Attempted Murder

(Jefferson County, Ind.) - On Tuesday, June 9, 2020, at approximately 5:00 p.m. Jefferson County Central Dispatch was notified by a 911 call of a male subject who had been shot at a residence in the 5500 block of Dixenford Rd. in Jefferson County Indiana. Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the location to investigate the incident.

Deputies located a 40-year-old male individual had a gunshot wound and began rendering medical aid. The subject was flown to University of Louisville hospital for treatment.

The victim has undergone surgery and is in recovery, as of the last update that the Sheriff’s Office has received. Melissa S. Payne, 40 years old, was located in Jennings County at the residence shortly after the incident and taken into custody.

Melissa S. Payne has been initially charged with Attempted Murder, Level 1 Felony, and Aggravate Battery with a Deadly Weapon, Level 2 Felony. Melissa S. Payne is currently lodged at the Jefferson County Jail.

(Jefferson County, Ind.) - Around 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, the Jefferson County Sheriffs Office responded to the report of a gunshot in the Paris Crossing area.

Upon arrival, the Jefferson County Sheriffs arrested Melissa S. Payne, of Paris Crossing, on multiple charges.

The charges against Payne are attempted murder and aggravated battery.
