Vehicle Crash Monday Morning Results in the Death of Jefferson County Resident

Scott County-On January 24th at approximately 6:17am, Deputies were dispatched to State Road 256 near Bethlehem Road in north eastern Scott County reference a serious automobile crash. Upon arrival, Deputies observed several vehicles stopped in the roadway and another vehicle in the ditch line. Two of the vehicles at the scene had extensive damage to the front end, apparently due to colliding head on. The deceased driver, later identified as Karena Monroe, 51, of Jefferson County, Indiana was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the second vehicle with extensive front end damage, identified as Cheyenne Taylor, 24 of Scottsburg was transported to University Hospital in Louisville for treatment. A passenger in Taylor’s vehicle, identified as Keenan Vaughn of Madison, Indiana was also transported to University Hospital, both with unknown injuries. The Indiana State Police Crash Reconstruction Team was contacted and responded to the scene. Also assisting at the scene of the crash was the Jennings Township Volunteer Fire Department and the Johnson Township Volunteer Fire Department. The crash remains under investigation at this time. Next of kin has been notified regarding the deceased.
