Crash remains under investigation by Sheriff's Department

Scott County-On April 18th at approximately 5:35pm, Deputies were dispatched to State Road 256 near Newman Road in north eastern Scott County reference a serious automobile crash. Upon arrival, Deputies observed a black minivan with heavy damage to the driver side off of the south side of State Road 256. Witnesses at the scene advised the minivan was travelling east on State Road 256 and for an unknown reason, the minivan left the south side of the roadway and struck multiple utility poles. Deputies at the scene rendered life saving measures to the driver who was later pronounced deceased at the scene. The investigation is ongoing at this time. More information will be released once next of kin has been notified. Deputy Skylar Thompson of the Scott County Sheriff’s Office is the investigating officer, assisted at the scene by Deputy Josh Juliot, First Sergeant Charlie Morgan, and Deputy Zach Brown. Firefighters from the Johnson Volunteer Fire Department, Scott County Emergency Medical Service Personnel, and Scott County Coroner Lonnie Noble also provided assistance at the scene.
UPDATE: The deceased driver was identified as Carri Ann Smith, 39 of Madison, Indiana.
