Southwestern Extends Basketball Coach Contracts, Franklin College Swimmer Named HCAC Athlete of Year

Local and College Sports update.

 

(undated) - Southwestern High School, School Board approved Zac Nussbaum to be the Boys' Basketball coach through the 2021-2022 season. The board also extended Girls' Basketball Head Coach Devin Brierly's contract through 2022. 

 

COLLEGE NEWS

Franklin College Junior Swimmer Brynna Sentel has been named the 2020 HCAC Female Athlete of the year, Announced by the league yesterday afternoon. 

The Sullivan Illinois native becomes the second Franklin female athlete to earn the league's top individual honor, joining 2015 winner Anna Murdock. 

Sentell earned the award after putting together a dominant season in the pool, qualifying for the NCAA national championships and being named an NCAA all-American for the second straight year.

Sentel punched her ticket to the national championships as an individual after hitting NCAA qualifying times in both the 1650 freestyle and the 500 freestyle.

The HCAC athlete of the year award is in its seventh year of existence. The award is voted on by the sports information directors of each member institution.
