Trimble Co. High School Cancels 2018 JV And Varsity Football Season

Due to low numbers

Two Indiana High School have cancelled their 2018 football season due to the lack of numbers, Hammond Noll and Wood Memorial. Now a local team has done the same.

In a statement Wednesday afternoon Trimble Co. announced they too have cancelled their season.

It is with a heavy heart that I must announce the cancellation of the 2018-19 football season for the JV/Varsity level, due to low player interest and turnout at beginning of season practices. The timing of this decision has been influenced by KHSAA requirements involving player transfer and cancellations of seasons. We greatly regret that we will not have a football program this year, and look forward to the possibilities of reestablishing the program in the future.

Trimble Co. it was learned earlier Wednesday were down to only 9 players. The Raiders were to scrimmage Woodford Co. on Saturday and open the season Friday, August 17th at Eminence.

Trimble Co. was 1-8 last season losing their last 7 of the season. The Raiders were 55-154 the last 20 years. Last winning season was 2007 when they were 7-5 and made it to the second round of the state finals. Last appearance in the post season was in 2014.

With the dropping of football it left Carroll Co. and Switzerland Co. without games. Carroll Co. Athletic Director, Paul Stone announced that Switzerland Co. will play the Panthers on August 31 in Carrollton. That day the Pacers were to play at Trimble Co. and Carroll Co. had a bye. Panthers bye week will now be September 28th.

Also, now with only four teams in the 5th District Carroll, Gallatin, Owen and Walton will all advance to the post season playoffs.
