Jake Owen Is Happy He Took Risk With "I Was Jack (You Were Diane)

The song is rooted in John Mellencamp's iconic 1982 hit, "Jack & Diane"

(Undated)  --  It was a risky decision, but Jake Owen is starting to reap the benefits of his latest single, "I was Jack (You Were Diane).

The song is rooted in John Mellencamp's iconic 1982 hit, "Jack & Diane".

Owen tells Kix Brooks on the "American Country Countdown" he was worried about taking a classic song and redoing it.

The decision seems to have paid off for Owen, because the song broke into the Top 20 this week, becoming his first single to hit that mark since "American Country Love Song" in 2016.
