Anthem and its Foundation invest in immediate disaster response, long-term recovery, and food assistance in communities impacted by severe storms and flooding
INDIANAPOLIS — Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Indiana and the Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation are committing $116,500 to support relief and recovery efforts following severe storms and considerable flooding that impacted communities across Central, East Central and Northwest Indiana.
The funding will support six organizations responding to immediate and longer-term needs across the state:
- $50,000 to the American Red Cross to support statewide disaster response and recovery efforts addressing the growing needs of communities.
-
$25,000 to Heart of Indiana United Way to support long-term recovery efforts across East Central Indiana.
-
$25,000 to the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana to help meet increased demand for food assistance and support mobile food distributions in storm-impacted Northwest Indiana communities.
-
$10,000 to provide approximately 500 Anthem hygiene kits for individuals and families impacted by severe weather in Marion, Hamilton, Wayne, Madison, Delaware, Henry, Dearborn and Lake counties.
-
$5,000 to New Shoe Day to help provide footwear to individuals and families impacted by storms and flooding across Indiana.
-
$1,500 to Firefly Children and Family Alliance to help purchase and distribute requested supplies in Anderson, Muncie and Richmond based on immediate community needs.
The grants are intended to help address needs at different stages of a disaster – from immediate emergency assistance to food security and the longer-term work of helping individuals, families and communities recover.
The hygiene kits will be distributed through community organizations serving impacted areas, including Washington Township Adult Center, United Way of Northwest Indiana, Heart of Indiana United Way, Good Samaritan Network, United Way of Whitewater Valley and United Way of Greater Cincinnati.
The disaster response builds on Anthem’s ongoing work with nonprofit and community organizations across Indiana to address immediate needs and support the long-term health and resilience of Hoosier communities.
Anthem will continue working with its community partners to monitor recovery needs and connect impacted individuals and families with available resources.
