AUDIO: Big Bass Bonanza Makes Its Way To NKY; Registration Still Open

The event features family-fun, big cash prizes and a Little Anglers Tournament.

(Union, Ky.) – The Ohio River will be full of area anglers this weekend.

Honest Mike Outdoors will host the Big Bass Bonanza at Knot Marine in Union, Kentucky on Saturday, June 1 and Sunday, June 2 from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Event organizer Jeff Bunch says the event started on a smaller scale last year, but this year’s event is set to be bigger and better.

“We only had about thirty boats last year, so we decided to up the game this year and try to make it a fun event for everyone,” said Bunch.

Bunch says he hopes to see at least 100 boats on the Ohio River this weekend. In the case they get 200 anglers, then there will be some added prize incentives.

The Big Bass Bonanza is already guaranteeing $2,400 an hour in prizes, including $1,000 to first place each hour. The overall Big Bass for the weekend will win a 2018 Alumacraft Prowler 175 plus $5,000 in cash.

“It only takes one bite,” says Bunch.

Little Anglers will also get a chance to cast a line. Kids ages 5-12 can win prizes by fishing for bass, bluegill, crappie and catfish.

Inclement weather leading up to the event has raised some concerns about river levels, but Bunch says a plan is in place to keep boaters safe at the event.

“I know there has been a lot of concern about the weather and the river levels,” said Bunch. “We are going to hold the event no matter what the river does. This is a trailering event so I don’t think navigation of the river will be an issue as much. If you have worries about running the river, you can just go ahead and trailer your boat and come over to the weigh-in that way.”

Anyone interested in participating in the Big Bass Bonanza can register on site at Knot Marine on Thursday and Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
