Carroll County Students Funding Legacy Scholarship

In Honor of classmate whom passed at the beginning of the school year

A group of students impacted by the loss of their friend, Bryce Stewart, have decided to take a role in helping to fund the legacy scholarship fund established in his honor.

“If you knew Bryce Stewart, he was a bucket filler,” said Zayn Satchwell, a senior who shared countless memories with Bryce on the football field and in agriculture classes.

Being a bucket filler is a concept the teens learned after reading Monday Morning Leadership in Mackenzie Wright’s agriculture classes. Each student had to read the book and develop a project that would exemplify leadership after reading a chapter on buckets and dippers. It encouraged them to fill people’s buckets with positive thoughts and avoid those who dip positivity out of their buckets.

In the wake of Bryce's passing, the idea to honor his memory through the Be Like Bryce legacy fund emerged. Orianna Wilson explains, “We were all trying to figure out a project to fill everyone’s bucket. We decided to raise money for the Be Like Bryce legacy fund for scholarships for seniors next year.”

Three groups opted to work together on different projects to fund the same source - the Be Like Bryce Legacy Fund. Bryce Stewart died in August shortly before school started. His death has had a profound impact on students, staff and the Carroll County community.

All events will be held on May 17 during the student council sponsored Field Day for CCHS students.

The bake donation will be held near the shelter house by the football field and a first responder car wash will take place near the baseball and softball fields.

Gage Abrams developed the idea of the first responder car wash. He is a member of the Westside Volunteer Fire Department and said there’s not much time for volunteers to wash the fire trucks and keep them clean. So, he wanted to fill their bucket by washing the vehicles. It’s open to any first responders within the county.

“Bryce was always helping so I decided I might as well Be Like Bryce and be helpful,” Gage said.

Bryson Chadwell, who was one of Bryce’s best friends, wants to preserve memories of his friend and football teammate. A memory book will be available for students and staff to write down memories of Bryce.

Behind each project are individuals committed to keeping Bryce's spirit alive. Orianna Wilson, Bryson Chadwell, Zayn Satchwell, Elijah Dalton, Mikey Sewell, Coleton Sellers, Jeff Lageman, Gage Abrams, Ross Crawford, Neil Abbott, and Logan Baxter—all coming together to honor their friend.
