Madison, Indiana (November 7, 2022) – The city of Madison today, entered into a five-year docking agreement with American Queen Voyages. The docking agreement will include updates and enhancements to the landing facility at the Port of Madison and will guarantee first rights to docking dates and times.

American Queen Voyages will make an initial $25,000 payment for exclusivity rights in 2023 and an additional $25,000 in 2024 with additional payments through 2027. The city, in return, will create a dedicated riverboat landing area and partner with Visit Madison Inc., the Madison Riverfront Development Committee and others, to coordinate a more impactful welcome experience for the estimated 20,000 people who visit our shores each year.

“This agreement is a vital part to Madison’s tourism industry, bringing in an estimated $250,000 in economic impact per year. We are grateful for this partnership and look forward to welcoming America Queen Voyages and their guests to Madison,” said Madison’s Mayor Bob Courtney.

The docking agreement includes first rights to scheduled dates 24 months in advance while not excluding other companies from docking on any other dates. The agreement also guarantees the company will visit Madison for a minimum of ten days per calendar year beginning in 2023.

“It is exciting seeing Madison as an important stop for cruises,” said Economic and Redevelopment Director Tony Steinhardt III. “We negotiated impact fees for the welcome experience and maintenance and will see a high return in capital from this investment and partnership.”

The city will maintain a safe and clear landing for each arrival and will make improvements by the first visit in 2023, including a 100’ paved area and installation of a permanent welcome sign stating the landing is for American Queen Voyages.

“At American Queen Voyages, we are always looking for ways to deliver unique experiences for our guests and we are thrilled to offer new options and locations on the Ohio River,” shares Cindy D’Aoust, president of American Queen Voyages. “This partnership is a win-win for everyone. It will further enhance the direct economic impact of tourism in Madison while also offering our guests the chance to deeply discover this charming community for many years to come.”
