City of Madison Launches iWorQ Online Platform

An online citizen engagement portal for permitting and code violation reporting.

Madison, Indiana (March 25, 2022) – The City of Madison Department of Planning Preservation and Design announced today the launch of the public portal for iWorQ, an online citizen engagement portal for permitting and code violation reporting.

In October of 2021, the City of Madison signed an agreement with iWorQ and worked through the implementation stage, which included importing data from various sources into the electronic database format. Since early February, the city staff has been using the permit management and code enforcement software.

“We felt that bringing this department into the 21st century was important. The first step was switching to an online platform that allows people to submit their applications,” said Nicole M Schell, Director of Planning. “Our next step is to add the ability to accept payments online.”

The launch of the public portal provides citizens access to submit all Department of Planning, Preservation, and Design applications online, check contractor registration and permit statuses, and report code violations through the iWorQ online portal. Submissions will be sent directly from the site to the appropriate staff member.

“This online platform accomplishes multiple goals of our administration, such as using technology to create a more user-friendly environment, capturing data, processing payments, and being more effective in planning and preservation. An enormous amount of work product happens in this department, and iWorQ will go a long way towards producing desirable outcomes,” said Madison’s Mayor Bob Courtney.

To access the online platform, citizens can visit madison-in.gov and click the action center icon on the home page or visit madison-in.gov/iworq.

While the City is now accepting online application submittals through iWorQ, paper copies of all applications will still be accepted. At this time, applications must be paid for by cash or check. For questions, please contact Nicole M Schell, Director of Planning, at 812-265-8324.
