(Madison, Ind.) - Following a survey of the nonprofit community, the Community Foundation of Madison and Jefferson County has decided to close its Rapid Response Grant Program in favor of beginning a scaled-down version of its Annual Competitive Grant Cycle.

The Competitive Cycle application window will be from August 1 to August 31, 2020, at Noon.

Through the Rapid Response Grant Program, the Community Foundation was able to award $66,200 to area nonprofits to address immediate needs related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Competitive grants are made possible by Flexible Community Funds and Field of Interest Funds. Flexible Community Funds give the Community Foundation Grants Committee the flexibility to assist in fulfilling the ever-changing needs of Jefferson County’s citizens.

Grants from Field of Interest Funds are chosen to benefit a specific interest, such as the arts, the environment, or youth development. Organizations must create a profile and complete the online request application available at www.cfmjc.org.

“This year’s cycle has a shortened timeline compared to previous years, so we encourage interested 501(c)3 organizations to call us with any questions they may have about the application process or if their project qualifies,” said staff member Kelly Miller, who oversees the Community Foundation’s grant programs. “We’re here and available to help applicants put their best foot forward.”

The Jefferson County United Way also has grant dollars available to help organizations with recovery through a partnership with Lilly Endowment, Inc. These grants are to support direct client assistance and emergent organizational needs. These needs may include support for safety-net nonprofits that have suffered a lack of income due to a COVID-19 related issue.

Established in 1991 by a group of local volunteers, the Community Foundation of Madison and Jefferson County fulfills the mission of building a strong, vibrant community by helping donors provide perpetual funding for the people, projects, and passions of Jefferson County.
