(Indianapolis, Ind.) - Governor Eric Holcomb along with the help of more than 100 students fourth-grade students and their teachers gathered in the Statehouse office today to celebrate Read Across America Day.

Launched in 1998 by the National Education Association, Read Across America is the nation’s largest celebration of reading. The year-round program focuses on motivating children and teens to read through events, partnerships, and reading resources that are about and for everyone.

The students from Shelbyville’s Loper Elementary listened to Gov. Holcomb as he read “What Do You Do with An Idea?” written by Kobi Yamada and illustrated by Mac Besom.

Along with March 2, being Read Across America Day, it is also Dr. Seuss’s Birthday. RAA encourages everybody to read books with your kids or by yourself daily to promote the message “there is room in our community for all readers.”
