Early morning crash claims the life of a Franklin County man in Jefferson County

On Friday, April 1, 2022, at approximately 6:34 a.m., the Jefferson County Central Dispatch received a report of a head on collision that took place on US 421 just south of SR 250.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the scene to investigate the collision. Responding units learned that it was a fatal crash and requested assistance from the Indiana State Police Accident Reconstruction Team from the Versailles Post.
The investigation is still ongoing.
Charles J. Hunter Jr. (23 y/o M) of Laurel, IN was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.
Antonio Lopez (64 y/o M) of Vancouver, WA was transported to KDH for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by KDH EMS, ISP Versailles Post, Madison Township VFD, Madison VFD Clifty 6 Rescue, Rykers Ridge VFD, Indiana Department of Transportation, and the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.
