Milton Fire & Rescue Awarded $390,450 FEMA SAFER Grant to Support Volunteer Recruitment and Retention

Four-year funding will help equip new recruits and support the volunteers who protect the community

MILTON, Ky. — Milton Fire & Rescue has been awarded a $390,450 grant through the 2025 Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) program to support volunteer firefighter recruitment and retention over the next four years.

The funding will help the department recruit new volunteers, provide properly fitted personal protective equipment (PPE) for new recruits, and support efforts to retain current firefighters. These resources will strengthen the department’s ability to maintain the personnel needed to respond to emergencies and protect the community.

As a 100% volunteer fire department, Milton Fire & Rescue depends on community members who give their time to serve others. Its firefighters leave their jobs, family dinners, ball games, church services, and beds at all hours to answer calls for help. Recruiting new members and supporting those who already serve are essential to sustaining that commitment.

The grant represents a significant investment in the department’s future and the safety of the community. It will provide resources to build the volunteer team while supporting the dedicated firefighters who continue to answer the call.

Milton Fire & Rescue extends its appreciation to FEMA for this investment and to the citizens of Milton for their continued support of the department and its volunteers.

New Volunteers Welcome

Milton Fire & Rescue is actively seeking new members. Previous firefighting experience is not required; the department provides the training and support needed to become part of the team.
