Chandler Hotel opened in early 2023

Historic Madison, Inc. President John Staicer announced that the Chandler Hotel is the 2023 Dorothy Inglis Reindollar Historic Preservation Award recipient. Owners Matt & Dan Chandler were honored for their outstanding rehabilitation of the former industrial building at 111 E 2nd St. into an upscale boutique hotel. The award ceremony took place Friday evening at the HMI annual Preservation Gala fundraiser at Shrewsbury-Windle House. The award is given in memory of Dotti Inglis Reindollar who was a long-time HMI board member, city councilperson, and fervent promoter of Madison.
In his remarks, Staicer noted “Madison is an amazing historic community because of people like the Chandlers who invest in the preservation and improvement of our amazing city. Historic preservation is one of the major economic drivers in our community. Matt & Dan Chandler had a vision that this building would be the perfect place to create a small, beautifully designed, lodging place with all the amenities one would expect to see in a much larger community. One of the main challenges they faced was maintaining the historic significance of the building while incorporating modern design and amenities. Balancing these two aspects was crucial to preserving the building’s charm and providing guests with a contemporary, comfortable stay. And what a success it has been! People from across the US have raved about it. This project with its focus on hospitality blended with historic preservation is very much in the spirit of Dotti Reindollar.”
Over 150 people attended Historic Madison’s largest fundraising event at the Shrewsbury-Windle House National Historic Landmark which is celebrated as one of America’s most important 19th century homes.  “Madison is the most diverse assembly of high-quality Grecian [architecture] to be found anywhere in America,” wrote Roger Kennedy
