ISP Reminds Motorist Be Cautious

Thursday, May 20, 2021 at 6:00 PM

By Sgt. Stephen Wheeles-Indiana State Police

Indiana State Police Remind Motorists to be on lookout for shoppers and be cautious of extra traffic.

This weekend, there will be yard sales all along US 50 and many other roadways throughout the district. This is scary for law enforcement and other first responders as there is potential for serious crashes, resulting in injuries.

Please remember a few important safety tips if you are going to yard sales or traveling this weekend.

DRIVERS

-Keep speeds down due to potential hazards

-Pay attention to your surroundings, expecting pedestrians to be walking along the road

-Park in safe locations off of the travel portion of the road

-Don't stop suddenly if you see a place you want to check out

-Increase your following distance in case someone else stops suddenly

-As always...PHONE DOWN...BUCKLE UP!!

PEDESTRIANS

-Remember, US 50 is a busy roadway. Vehicles going highway speed can't stop suddenly. Avoid walking across the highway if possible.
