Ivy Tech Community College Hosting Equity Panel Discussion with College Presidents

(Indianapolis, Ind.) - Ivy Tech Community College will host “Dialogue on the Future of Equity in Higher Education – A Panel Discussion with College Presidents” Wednesday, March 24 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. ET. During the virtual event, Ivy Tech President Sue Ellspermann, Martin University President Sean Huddleston, and Prince George’s Community College President Falecia D. Williams will share how they are working to ensure their institutions address equity in higher education.

Topics will include expanding access to quality education and high-wage job opportunities by addressing the inequities that lead to vastly different outcomes for low-income students and students of color. The 45-minute discussion will be followed by 15 minutes of audience Q&A.

About Ivy Tech President Sue Ellspermann:

Dr. Sue Ellspermann has more than 30 years of experience in higher education, economic and workforce development, and public service. She most recently served as Indiana’s 50th Lieutenant Governor from 2013 until March of 2016. In May 2016, she was selected to serve as President of Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana and assumed the role on July 1, 2016. She is the ninth individual to hold the position and first female president for the college. Ellspermann holds a Ph.D. and M.S. from the University of Louisville in Industrial Engineering and a B.S. from Purdue University also in Industrial Engineering.

About Martin University President Sean Huddleston:

Dr. Sean L. Huddleston began his presidency as Martin University’s 5th president on March 25, 2019. Dr. Huddleston’s entire career in higher education has been focused on leading institutional efforts that create conditions of success for nontraditional students and those who have been historically underrepresented and underserved. Prior to joining Martin University, Dr. Huddleston served as the inaugural Vice President and Chief Equity & Inclusion Officer for the University of Indianapolis. 

Dr. Huddleston's educational experiences have focused on non-traditional, adult learners in higher education. As a returning adult student, he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree (B.A.) from Siena Heights University. He later earned a Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree in Adult and Higher Education and an Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) in Leadership degree from Grand Valley University. Dr. Huddleston completed his doctorate in Community College Leadership at Ferris State University. Dr. Huddleston has also received professional certifications from Cornell University and Dartmouth College.

About Prince George’s Community College President Falecia D. Williams:

Dr. Falecia D. Williams is the ninth president of Prince George’s Community College (PGCC). A proven transformational servant leader, she joins PGCC after nearly 22 years at Valencia College, where she led by example, inspiring change and transformation. Her commitment to diversity in higher education goes beyond buzzwords to the heart of the humanity that exists within each person. She’s been named one of Orlando Magazine’s 50 Most Powerful and is an Aspen Presidential Fellow. Delightfully charismatic and authentically humble, Dr. Williams is a refreshing reminder that effective leadership has always been more about influence than power.
