Jefferson Co. Health Department Keeping The County Informed on Coronavirus

(Jefferson County, Ind.) - The City of Madison and the Jefferson County Health Department are working together, and in collaboration with the Indiana State Department of Health to keep the residents of Jefferson County as healthy and informed as possible.

We have been in regular contact with the Indiana State Department of Health as well as our local businesses, primary, secondary, and post-secondary education institutions, the Emergency Management Agency, long term care facilities, and the jail.

These organizations are receiving the most up-to-date information and recommendations from both the Jefferson County Health Department and the State Department of Health and will continue to receive information as this situation evolves. We are confident that these agencies are knowledgeable and prepared to handle any circumstance that this rapidly evolving situation may bring to our community.

To prevent the spread of illness the best precautions anyone can take are as follows;

• Wash your hands thoroughly and frequently. If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.

• Cough and sneeze into your elbow or tissue then immediately wash your hands.

• Stay home when you are sick.

• Avoid close contact with individuals who are ill and maintain at least a six-foot distance from others when you are out in public, if possible.

• Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily.

• See your doctor if you think you are ill.

Additionally, Governor Holcomb announced the steps the state is taking amid 12 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Indiana. Among the steps include limiting non-essential gatherings to no more than 250 people, giving schools waived time for the academic year, and suspending visitation at correctional facilities State, county, and city agencies will continue to work together to monitor, respond to, and mitigate any scenario that may present itself as this situation develops.
