Jefferson County Health Officials: Wearing Mask In Public Places Is Recommended

(Jefferson County, Ind.) - During today's briefing on COVID-19, health and government officials gave some more information on how they are continuing to fight COVID-19.

Dr. John Hossler, Jefferson County Health Officer, gave statistics on screening symptoms in local industries.  He stated while some cases show symptoms, 25 percent are asymptotic this is why it is important to take social distancing seriously.

Hossler stated that with talk of a possible second wave coming, social distance is something that we should practice even when this pandemic is past us.

Hossler broke down the statistics of symptoms that are being reported:

  • 83 to 99 of people experience fever
  • 60 to 80 of people have a cough
  • 70 percent of people are fatigued
  • 40 percent experience shortness of breath
  • 35 percent have body aches

Some new symptoms that are being reported are severe headaches, as well as gastrointestinal issues.

Tammy Monroe, Director of Jefferson County Health Department, reiterated the fact to wear a mask while you are in public situations, and while medical mask are being reserved for healthcare professionals, there are alternative options to make a mask out of household items.

Monroe also stated that there are now 17 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the county, and a possible eighteenth case, which the health department is tracking to see if the individual lives in the county.

The clinic partnered with the MAYO clinic on Friday, April 10 and has been seeing great results in receiving faster test results.

All parties mentioned residents viewing the case counts on the Indiana State Department of Health website. once on there the interactive map gives statistics by county. This will help residents see how many people have been tested.
