Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Responds to Fatal Accident

The accident occurred at the intersection of State Road 62 and State Road 56 in Jefferson County.

(Jefferson County, Ind.) – On Friday, June 19 at approximately 12:55 a.m., the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a motor vehicle accident involving one vehicle.

The accident occurred at the intersection of State Road 62 and State Road 56 in Jefferson County.

The sole occupant of the vehicle, Travis L. Melton, 21, of Jefferson County sustained a life-threatening injury and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Jefferson County Coroner.

The vehicle operated by Melton left the roadway for and undermined reason just prior to the intersection. The vehicle impacted a Duke Energy box and guard rail after leaving the roadway.

Melton was partially ejected from the vehicle.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, KDH EMS and Hanover Fire Department.
