Jefferson County Public Library announced Judi Terpening is the new Library Director, effective Thursday, July 12, 2018.

Judi Terpening has been promoted to Director after serving as Interim Director for the past four months. She served as Jefferson County Public Library Assistant Director since March 2016, supervising the day-to-day operations of the Library and managing the staff. Previously, she was the Youth Services Coordinator at the Switzerland County Public Library (IN). She earned her Master of Library Science from IUPUI in 2015, and has worked in the profession since 2009. Terpening serves on the Evergreen Indiana Executive Committee for the Indiana State Library.

“I am excited about the opportunity to guide Jefferson County Public Library into the next century of service. My goal is to continue our efforts in meeting the technology and library needs of the community while focusing on personal service. I look forward to fostering community partnerships and working for the residents of Jefferson County,” Terpening said.

Terpening said that the library staff is well-equipped to steer the library into the next era. “We have a great staff that has the experience and education to move the library forward. Our 23 employees have over 120 total years of library experience, including six staff members with undergraduate education and six more with graduate degrees.”

For over 20 years, Terpening’s family has lived in the area. Judi and her husband Allan, as well as two of their children, Mary and Simon, reside in Hanover. The couple’s older sons, Chad and Ben Terpening and their families live in Vevay and Madison, respectively.

Board of Trustees President Kelly Joyce stated, “We appreciate Judi Terpening’s leadership for Jefferson County Library over the past few months. We look forward to her development of the role of our Library as a center of education and culture in our community, fostering of collaborative partnerships with other area resources, and cultivating a place that our patrons and friends can count on for support and guidance.”

A reception for the community to welcome Terpening in her new role will held at the Madison Public Library on Thursday, September 6 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. As a family-friendly, open house reception, all community members are invited, including patrons, volunteers, presenters and program instructors, educators, and librarians from other institutions.
