Little League Baseball and Softball Returns To Madison Parks Mid June

New Programs for youth and adults

The City of Madison Parks Department announced upcoming summer and fall programming, with more programs to come. Sharing a newly created schedule, the department will offer several new programs, classes and camps for youth and adults to participate in this year.

The announced programs include (but are not limited to): youth swim lessons, water aerobics, summer youth pickleball clinic and open gym, summer dance camps, summer cheerleading camps, youth golf programs, pick-up games in the parks, mid-summer classic baseball and softball, a princess tea party, summer art classes, and active adult field trips.

"The Parks Department is excited about the new programs we are rolling out this year and looks forward to adding even more in the future," said the Parks and Recreation Director, Scott Klein. "We are finalizing paperwork for fall sports, such as football and cheerleading while working on sign-up sheets for our summer programs. We will send flyers home to parents through the local schools and have our online sign-up program, Rec Desk, available for those who wish to sign up online."

Tee-ball practices will begin in the first week of May, and games will start on May 8. Summer swim lessons and water aerobics will begin on June 5. The youth pickleball clinic will take place from June 5 to June 9 and is free for kids ages 6-15. The princess tea party will include an afternoon tea with a guest appearance of 2022 Regatta pageant winners on June 10. Dance camps are week-long and set for evenings in mid-June for ages 3-6, 7-10, and 11-13. The younger group will learn ballet and dance, and the older group will work on lyrical and pom routines, with a wrap-up showcase event for both. Cheerleading camps are week-long in the evenings beginning mid-July, ages 3-6, 7-10, and 11-13. Baseball and softball will also return in mid-June for 6-week summer leagues running through the end of July. In August, fall cheer and fall football will run as usual, according to the schedule already published online at madison-in.gov/programs.

"We are committed to offering our community the most comprehensive and diverse youth and adult programming. This goes along with the major investments we have been making in our facilities. Our new parks team, along with the leadership of the parks board, are doing a great job addressing the needs of our community," said Madison's Mayor, Bob G. Courtney.
