July 23, 2021, at approximately 10:41 PM Madison Police Patrolman Curtis Shelpman attempted to execute a traffic stop on Wilson Avenue for reckless driving.  The driver of a scooter, later identified as Branden L. Gray 32 Walton, Kentucky, failed to stop.

A short pursuit through the center of Madison's Hilltop area ensued until the Gray reached the end of Taylor Street, near Johnson Lake.  As Gray attempted to take the pursuit "off road" he lost control of the scooter, when he struck the ditch line.  Gray was taken into custody without further incident and he was not injured.  The subsequent search of Gray found him to be in possession of narcotics.

Branden L. Gray faces the following preliminary alleged charges of - possession of methamphetamine, possession of a legend drug, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, resisting law enforcement by vehicle, and reckless driving.

Patrolman Shelpman was assisted by Madison Police Officers Season Jackson, Aaron Watson, Josh Noaln and Cameron Blankenship.  Branden L. Gray has the presumption of innocence until otherwise proven guilty.
