Madison Police arrested three overnight on drug related charges

July 3, 2023, Madison Police K-9 Officer Trent Smith executed a traffic stop on E. Clifty Drive for an equipment violation.  The vehicle was slow to stop as Officer Smith noted furtive movement by the occupants in the vehicle.  K-9 “Colt” was deployed and conducted an open-air sniff around the exterior of the vehicle.  “Colt” gave his Handler a positive indication for the presence of narcotics.  The subsequent search of the driver, Kyler Brooks’, found him to be in possession of fentanyl laced Perk 30’s and paraphernalia associated with the use of drugs.

Kyler Brooks was taken into custody; he faces preliminary alleged charges of possession of a narcotic drug Level 6 felony and possession of paraphernalia class C misdemeanor. Officer Smith was assisted by Captain Season Jackson and Patrol Officer Andrew Gibbs.  Brooks has the presumption of innocence until otherwise proven guilty.

July 4, 2023, Patrolman Andrew Gibbs executed a traffic stop on Cragmont Street, for erratic driving behaviors.  The driver of the vehicle was identified as Adam W. Oeffinger 44, Vevay, Indiana.  A passenger in the vehicle was identified as Charles R. Turner 56, Madison, Indiana.  K-9 “Colt” and his handler Officer Trent Smith responded to the scene of the stop where “Colt” conducted an open-air sniff around the exterior of the vehicle.  “Colt” gave his handler a positive indication for the presence of narcotics in the vehicle.  During the subsequent search, officers located methamphetamine and a legend drug.

Adam Oeffinger and Charles Turner were taken into custody without incident.  Oeffinger faces preliminary alleged charges of;  possession of methamphetamine L-6 felony and driving while suspended class A misdemeanor.  Turner faces preliminary alleged charges of; possession of methamphetamine level 6 felony and possession of a legend drug class level 6 felony.  Both Oeffinger and Turner have the presumption of innocence until otherwise proven guilty.  Officer Shelpman assisted.
