Madison Police Chief John Wallace received approval from both the Police Merit Board And Board of Public Works to start hiring part-time officers for the city's police force. This program would put retired or former officers on patrol with the city's current police force. These part-time officers would help fill in shifts at the department and help with special events within the city. They would be paid an hourly wage and have the same police powers as they had when they were full time officers. The hiring is expected to begin immediately.
