(Madison, Ind.) - On March 26, the City of Madison gained two new officers in Jared Sweet and Cody Lewis.

Mayor Courtney and Cheif of Police John Wallace, and a few family members gathered with the men at the city hall to conduct the ceremony.

"Usually we like to do this in front of the city council and the public but given our circumstances of the COVID-19 virus we are going to swear them in with the Mayor and their family member," said Chief of Police John Wallace.

Both men have been at the academy for ten weeks, and at this time the academy has been suspended so they will not have the opportunity to finish at the academy. Chief of Police John Wallace stated, "the men will be utilized in many different ways, while we have the opportunity."

The two have a background in the United States Armed forces, one with the Marines and the other with the Army.

"I am very grateful for both of them being willing to serve our community and look out for the public safety of the citizens of Madison," said Mayor Bob Courtney.

The city police department is now fully staffed.

"We continue to vigorously pursue all public safety responsibilities throughout our community," stated Mayor Courtney.

If you would like to watch the men get sworn in you can visit the City of Madison's Facebook page.
