MPD Interrupts Armed Robbery at Englewood Motel

The alleged perpetrator, had reportedly forcibly taken money from the victim, while armed with a hammer.

(Madison, Ind.) - On Wednesday, May 27, officers with the City of Madison Police Department arrested William J. May, 41, of Madison on robbery charges, while armed with a deadly weapon and one count of receiving stolen property. 

While investigating a separate matter at the Englewood Motel, officers interrupted an armed robbery in progress. May, the alleged perpetrator, had reportedly forcibly taken money from the victim, while armed with a hammer. 
 
Officers were able to take May into custody without incident. 
 
The hammer, along with the alleged stolen money was recovered by officers. 
 
This incident occurred in a room at the hotel .
