ORV Accident Claims Life Of Floyds Knobs Man

Preliminary investigation revealed that the ORV had struck a guardrail and overturned, ejecting Sonne.

(Floyd County, Ind.) – Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating a fatal Off-Road vehicle (ORV) accident that occurred on Thursday afternoon.

Just after 4:00 p.m., Conservation Officers along with the Floyd County Sheriff’s Department responded to the 4400 block of Skyline Drive for the report of an ORV accident with injuries.

Once on scene, officers located 69-year-old Thomas Sonne, of Floyd Knob, unresponsive in the roadway under the overturned ORV. The Floyd County Coroner’s Office pronounced Sonne dead at the scene.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the ORV had struck a guardrail and overturned, ejecting Sonne.

Sonne was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Conservation Officers strongly encourage riders to always wear a helmet and use necessary safety equipment when operating an ORV.

This accident is still under investigation by Indiana Conservation Officers.
