Walking in a foggy area along the road

On May 15, 2019, at approximately 10:46 p.m., Scottsburg emergency personnel were dispatched to a car versus pedestrian crash on North Wilson Road just north of West Weir Road on the northwest side of Scottsburg.   Officers from the Scottsburg Police Department were the first to arrive on-scene.  Indiana State Police Crash Reconstructionists were requested to assist with the investigation.

The preliminary investigation reveals that Terry W. Madden, 34, Scottsburg, was walking northbound on North Wilson Road.  Mr. Madden was walking on the roadway but near the fog line.  There are no streetlights on this portion of North Wilson Road.

As Madden continued walking northbound, a black, 2015 Dodge Dart approached from the south and struck Madden who was still on the roadway.  The vehicle was operated by a legally licensed juvenile who was the sole occupant of the car.

Terry Madden sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Scott Memorial Hospital by ambulance.  Mr. Madden later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The driver was not injured.  Neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected to be a factor in this crash; however, test results are still pending.  The driver has not been cited or charged.

This investigation is on-going.  Units from the Indiana State Police were assisted by the Scottsburg City Police Department, The Scott County Sheriff's Department, Scott County EMS, and the Scott County Coroner's Office.
