(Columbus, Ind.) -  U.S. Congressman Greg Pence (IN-06) today called on the U.S. House of Representatives to return to regular order, and stood firmly in opposition of remote voting, voting by proxy, or conducting virtual committee hearings.

“House Democrats, led by Speaker Pelosi, are in the middle of a historic power-grab. Congress has met in-person for 231 years, but with Congress no longer meeting in-person, it’s clear Nancy Pelosi is using this crisis to bypass Republican, bipartisan input so she can push her agenda and attack President Trump and the Administration.

House Democrats are moving forward with new major legislation without participation from half the country’s Representatives demonstrating an unprecedented level of ultra-partisanship at a time when many in our country are trying to pull together to defeat this pandemic and get America back to work.

With Congress subject to endless amounts of cyber-attacks, now is not the time to experiment with American democracy at the expense of our nation’s cybersecurity.

We need to send the message to the American people that Congress should be open, working for the People in our nation’s capital, taking safety precautions. There is too much going on in our nation for Congress to be operating in 441 locations around the country,” said Congressman Pence.

This morning in an interview on WIBC of Columbus, IN, Pence called on the House to come back to regular order and meet in person while following the House Office of the Attending Physician’s safety and health guidance, citing success in recently meeting in-person in D.C. to vote on the CARES Act and conduct a Small Business Committee hearing.
