(Washington, D.C.) - U.S. Congressman Greg Pence highlighted the robust rain industry in Indiana and the Sixth District on Wednesday, March 4.
During the Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials hearing, Pence gave a shoutout to the Rail industry leaders and activist in recognition of Railroad Day on Capitol Hill.
Last year, Pence worked with local leaders to secure a $4.2 Million Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements Grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to update Madison’s Graham Creek Bridge. This project will rehabilitate the 140- year-old Graham Creek Bridge which connects Jefferson and Jennings counties in the sixth district.
“In my home state of Indiana, 22 regional railroads span over 1,200 miles, we live up to our nickname: the Crossroads of America. Six of those Class III short lines run right through my district in Southeast Indiana,” said Congressman Pence. “Small communities, like so many in my district, are not seeing important federal dollars. I will continue to work with local leaders to encourage more public-private partnerships so small rural communities will be able to act on the funding that bolsters our rail industry and runs our economy.”
