(Madison, Ind.) – Shawe Memorial High School will be hosing face to face graduation for the class of 2020 on June 21.

At this date the state of Indiana will be at phase 4 of Governor Holcomb’s Back on Track Indiana Plan if it is to keep moving forward as scheduled.

“If we only get to phase 3, where only 100 people can attend, then we will further limit the number of guests,” the school stated.

There will be many guidelines and restrictions for the commencement ceremony. It is asked that these guidelines are strictly followed.

The guidelines are as follows:

  • Each graduate will receive a set number of tickets for the purpose of inviting family and friends. This number will not exceed 8 tickets. These tickets will be checked at the door. We will soon be sending out a document asking you to RSVP with a number needed.
  • Within the gymnasium there will be a marked off specific seating section for each graduate’s ticket holders. Within that section it is up to the ticket holders to safely socially distance. I will be holding a random draw to determine which section each family gets. The exception to this is the winner of the Senior Package at the Prince of Peace Schools Dinner Auction. That family will receive a preferred front section
  • Tape will be on the ground that will determine foot traffic flow.
  • Graduates will remain 6 feet from one another during the ceremony.
  • Our families and our schools are partners. With this in mind, all graduates will choose one or two family members that they have invited to hand them their diploma as part of this ceremony.
  • Masks for visitors and faculty/staff are strongly encouraged
  • As Graduates complete the ceremony they will exit the gym individually and will be joined by their guests. Once one group has exited the next graduate will be called. There will be no reception.
  • We are asking all graduates to come fully ready as we will not have a space for you to get ready
  • We are asking that you arrive with all ticket holders at the same time and that you do not arrive too early as seating will not be an issue and it is preassigned via a blind draw
  • We are working on building a family picture opportunity into the end of the ceremony.

For baccalaureate the above modifications will also be in place. With baccalaureate an Archdiocesan Mass will also be following the rules set forth by the Archbishop and his leadership team during the event.

The senior slide show that was planned for Friday, June 19 will be presented digitally through a platform for students and families to enjoy on their own time.
