Single Vehicle Fatal Accident On Clifty Drive

Crash under investigation

Sunday evening at approximately 6:29 PM, Jefferson County Deputies were dispatched to the intersection of Clifty Drive and Meadow Lane in reference to a single vehicle traffic crash.

Madison Township Fire Department arrived first on scene and discovered that the vehicle’s lone occupant was deceased. Additional fire department personnel were requested to assist in the extrication, once removed from the vehicle, the vehicle’s occupant was identified as Charles T. Stewart; age 73 of Madison, Indiana.

After processing the crash scene, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputies believe that Mr. Stewart was traveling southbound on Clifty Drive when, for unknown reasons, Mr. Stewart crossed the center and northbound lanes of the road.

The vehicle then traveled off the east edge of the roadway, before striking a tree and coming to rest.
