Southeast Indiana lawmakers encourage constituents to take 2024 issue survey

Indiana's next legislative session to begin Jan. 8 at Statehouse

STATEHOUSE (Dec. 11, 2023) – With Indiana's lawmakers set to return to the Statehouse on Jan. 8 for the start of the 2024 legislative session, local lawmakers released online surveys to gather constituents' feedback on important issues.

To get started on the survey, lawmakers ask Hoosiers to visit their state representative's webpage at one of the following links and click on the red "Take My Survey" button:

  • State Rep. Lindsay Patterson (R-Brookville), House District 55, in.gov/h55;
  • State Rep. Zach Payne (R-Charlestown), House District 66, in.gov/h66;
  • State Rep. Alex Zimmerman (R-North Vernon), House District 67, in.gov/h67;
  • State Rep. Karen Engleman (R-Georgetown), House District 70, in.gov/h70; or
  • State Rep. Jennifer Meltzer (R-Shelbyville), House District 73, in.gov/h73.

"Surveys are a great way to hear from constituents as we prepare to do our work at the Statehouse," Patterson said. "I encourage all residents of House District 55 to give me feedback on important matters impacting them and their families."

To complete online surveys, constituents must be a resident of the district and submit it by the Dec. 31 deadline. Constituents can check which House district they reside in by visiting the Indiana General Assembly's website at iga.in.gov, clicking on "Find Your Legislator" on the homepage and entering a home address. Constituents can also expect to receive or may have already received a copy of their state representative's survey mailer in their mailbox.

"There is no such thing as too much communication, and surveys are another tool Hoosiers can use to make their voices heard," Payne said. "Responding to these surveys helps legislators understand the issues affecting constituents and find solutions."

The 2024 legislative session begins Jan. 8 and must conclude by March 14. Hoosiers can stay informed and engaged by visiting iga.in.gov, where they can watch session and committee meetings, read proposed bills, and view calendars and agendas.

"As a freshman legislator, I greatly appreciate any opportunity to get more feedback from my constituents," Zimmerman said. "While I learn more at the Statehouse in this new role, I encourage citizens of House District 67 to share their thoughts and concerns with me."

"I can better represent our area if constituents stay engaged and communicate with me both in and out of session," Engleman said. "As legislators prepare for the upcoming session, these surveys offer an easy way for Hoosiers to let them know about the topics most important to them."

"Learning the thoughts and concerns of constituents from across my district is invaluable when reviewing and voting on legislation," Meltzer said. "I hope to hear from residents in House District 73 throughout session  so I can best represent our local communities."

To stay updated during the legislative session, Hoosiers can sign up for their legislator's email newsletter by visiting IndianaHouseRepublicans.com and entering their email address under "Subscribe to eNews" or by calling 317-232-9600.
