Stolen License Plate leads to Narcotics/Stolen Vehicle Arrest In Bartholomew County

On 07/04/2024 at approximately 11:43 PM dispatch was notified of a vehicle displaying a stolen license plate traveling northbound on S US 31. Deputy Hatchett was able to locate a vehicle matching the description given as it entered Columbus.

Deputy Hatchett conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle in the area of State St. and N Beatty St. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Dylan Roberts 25yo of Austin, IN. The license plate attached to the vehicle was confirmed stolen out of Louisville, KY. As the investigation continued it was discovered that the vehicle, a 2011 Ford Focus was found to be stolen from Scottsburg, IN. Roberts was placed under arrest after which he was found to be in possession of approximately 19 grams of methamphetamine.

Roberts was transported to the Bartholomew County Jail on the charges of auto theft, possession of a stolen registration and possession of methamphetamine. Roberts continues to be held in custody on a 72 hour hold.

This is a preliminary investigation. All persons are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
