The pursuit began in Madison

Madison, Indiana (April 6, 2026) –This morning, at approximately 8:03 AM, the Madison Police received a tip from the Scott County Sheriff's Department of a stolen vehicle. Scott County dispatch advised the vehicle was in Madison at the McDonald's parking lot. The vehicle was alleged to be in possession of Cayden Morelli of Scottsburg. Officers Mundt and Watson Jr soon located the vehicle and approached the occupant sitting in the driver's seat. When the occupant observed officers, he took off from the parking lot at a high rate of speed. Officers began to pursue the vehicle at that time.
The pursuit went into Hanover, where the fleeing vehicle struck a guardrail, damaging the front fender and front tire. However, the vehicle continued into Scott County, where he eventually stopped fleeing and pulled over to the side of the road after running out of gas. The occupant was taken into custody without further incident. The driver was identified as Cayden S. Morelli, age 18, of Scottsburg, Indiana. He was charged with resisting law enforcement by fleeing, Reckless driving, Leaving the scene of a property damage accident, Possession of marijuana, and possession of stolen property.
The Madison Police department was assisted by Sheriff Ben Flint, Det. Yancy Denning, and Deputies Patrick Finnegan and Linton Spry of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department, along with Chief Shane Caldwell of the Hanover Police Department, and deputies from the Scott County Sheriff's Department.
