The Kentucky State Police is investigating a fatal shooting in Gallatin County.

On Monday, May 07, 2018 at approximately 4:39 A.M. Gallatin County dispatch received a 911 call in reference to an altercation between two males on Main Street in Warsaw.  It was alleged that one of the men was armed with a handgun.

Gallatin County Sheriff Josh Neale responded to the scene.  Upon his arrival he encountered a male subject, later identified as Treigh Monroe, age 35 of Louisville, KY.  Monroe was holding the second male, later identified as Dwight Wesley, age 54 of Bennington, IN, at gunpoint.  Sheriff Neale attempted to deescalate the situation and negotiate with Monroe.  Negotiations stalled and Monroe shot and killed Wesley before turning the gun on himself.

The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Gallatin County Coroner.  Mr. Wesley was transported to Carroll County Memorial Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.  Autopsies for both individuals are scheduled with the Louisville Medical Examiner’s Office.  The investigation is ongoing by the Kentucky State Police.

The Kentucky State Police was assisted on scene by the Gallatin Sheriff’s Office, City of Warsaw Police Department, Gallatin County EMS, Gallatin County Fire Department and the Gallatin County Coroner.
