Two Jennings County Residents Arrested Following Vehicle Pursuit

The pursuit continued South where the suspect vehicle nearly struck an approaching deputy head-on.

(Jennings County, Ind.) - On January 22, at approximately 10:50 p.m., Jennings County Reserve Deputy Dylan Smock attempted to make contact with a suspicious vehicle at Eco Park.

As Deputy Smock attempted to make contact with the suspect, they took off at a high rate of speed pulling onto State Road 7. Deputy Smock pursued the vehicle to County Road 500 where Sergeant Cody Low was able to successfully deploy a tire deflation device. The pursuit continued South where the suspect vehicle nearly struck an approaching deputy head-on.

Continuing through North Vernon, the driver later identified as 25-year-old Tyler Houchens, eventually lost control of the vehicle, when he then attempted to flee on foot. Sergeant Low gave several verbal commands to Houchens to stop when he did not comply, Sergeant Low deployed canine Axel.

During the investigation, deputies located methamphetamine, heroin/fentanyl, and other drug paraphernalia inside of the vehicle.

A female in the vehicle, later identified as 24-year-old Donna Weekly, was also taken into custody.

Houchens was treated at the scene by Jennings County EMS and then later transported to St. Vincent Jennings Hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

The two face the following alleged charges:

Tyler Houchens: 

  • Resisting Law Enforcement by vehicle (Level 6 Felony)
  • Resisting Law Enforcement by foot (A Misdemeanor)
  • Criminal Recklessness (Level 6 Felony)
  • Possession of Methamphetamine (Level 6 Felony)
  • Possession of Narcotic Drug (Level 6 Felony)
  • Possession of Paraphernalia (C Misdemeanor)
  • Reckless Driving (B Misdemeanor)
  • Numerous Traffic Citations

  • Possession of Methamphetamine (Level 6 Felony)
  • Possession of Narcotic Drugs (Level 6 Felony)
  • Possession of Paraphernalia (C Misdemeanor)
