Lanier and Clifty

A Carrollton Kentucky man was killed last night when the motorcycle he was riding left the northbound lane and struck a passenger car traveling in the southbound lane.

On March 22, 2019 at approximately 7:46 pm an Indiana State Police Crash Reconstructionist responded to a report of a serious injury crash involving two vehicles on Lanier Drive (SR7) near Clifty Drive (SR62) in Madison.

Senior Trooper Matthew Holley arrived to find a 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle that had struck a 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt.  The preliminary investigation by Holley shows that the motorcycle, ridden by Justin Blankenship, age 30 of Carrollton Kentucky, was northbound on Lanier Drive.

For an unknown reason the motorcycle left the northbound lane of travel and entered the southbound lane of travel.  The motorcycle struck a 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt head on.  The Chevrolet Cobalt was driven by Creighton Sever, age 25 of Madison.  Creighton Sever had minor injuries and was not transported to the hospital.  Justin Blankenship succumbed to the injuries that he received in the crash.  He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.  It is believed that he was not wearing his helmet at the time of the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.  Toxicology results on both drivers are pending at this time.
