UPDATE: Jennings County Homeowner Shoots Alleged Intruder

Following statements from witnesses and evidence is collected, the Jennings County Prosecutor’s Office to determine if a criminal act was committed.  

(Jennings County, Ind.) – The Jennings County Sheriff’s Office along with the Indiana State Police are continuing an investigation into a shooting that took place on December 4.

The incident occurred in Geneva Township when Ryan Perry, 37, of Hope, Indiana went to the residence of Ashton Ayers, 51, in an attempt to locate a female acquaintance. According to the sheriff’s office, an altercation took place after Perry tried to enter the residence.

Following the first altercation, Ayers returned with a handgun, striking Perry once in his abdomen as he attempted to gain entry into the home for a second time.

Perry then left the scene and drove to the Elizabethtown Fire Department where he received medical treatment and was subsequently flown from there to an Indianapolis Hospital for treatment. Where he is currently recovering from his injuries.

Following statements from witnesses and evidence is collected, the Jennings County Prosecutor’s Office will determine if a criminal act was committed.
