Scott County-On 6-3-2022, Scott County Sheriff Jerry Goodin welcomed United States Senator Mike Braun of Indiana to the Scott County Jail. Senator Braun was in the area on business when he and members of his staff paid a visit to the Sheriffs’ Office. After a short “meet and greet session”, Senator Braun was provided a personal tour of the jail by Sheriff Goodin, enlightening the Senator on how the Sheriffs’ Office has remodeled the jail facility using inmates, while teaching them about giving back to the community. Furthermore, Sheriff Goodin described the many rehabilitation programs offered by the jail staff and community partners to inmates while incarcerated at the jail, which was championed by two (2) inmates who had an opportunity to speak to the Senator. Both of these men described how the training they receive while incarcerated has prepared them for life once released, something they expressed sincere appreciation for. Additionally, Senator Braun commemorated his visit to the Sheriffs’ Office by penning a message to deputies and staff on a Scott County Sheriffs’ Office neighborhood watch sign. The message reads “keep up the great work…best wishes”! Senator Mike Braun. The sign will be displayed in a dignified place within the Sheriffs’ Office where others can see and enjoy it for years to come. Sheriff Goodin advised the following about this noble visit… “it was an honor to have Senator Braun visit the Scott County Sheriffs’ Office and for me to show him what we together have done as a team to best serve our citizens…speaking for the entire office and inmates, we were thrilled to host him. In closing, I would be remiss if I failed to mention how intrigued the Senator was of our office mascot, deputy donut. Positioned next to deputy donut is a contribution box for the REFUGE Home for Children, which Senator Braun graciously contributed personal funds to during his visit”.
