Now a senior at DePauw University

DePauw University senior Hunter Sego was named this morning to the 2018 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® , presented by Allstate Insurance Company and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA).  In July, Sego was one of 169 college football players nominated for the award.  Today's announcement puts him among a select group of 22 student athletes and honorary head coach to be recognized with the Good Works Team designation.

A voting panel, including two-time national champion and former Good Works Teammember, Tim Tebow, reviewed the nominations and selected the recipients.

The award, which has played a prominent role in collegiate sports for more than 25 years, celebrates student-athletes and the honorary head coach for their extraordinary commitment to making a lasting impact off the field.

Sego is a punter and defensive back on the Tiger football team and is a biochemistry major at DePauw. He has Type 1 diabetes and he has been an activist on behalf of diabetes patients. Sego has been to Congress multiple times to speak to U.S. representatives and senators. The Indiana Safe at School Act, also known as Hunter's Law, provides protection to students living with diabetes to allow them to carry and administer life-sustaining supplies to help throughout the day

"Hunter is an outstanding student-athlete and a great representative of DePauw," Tiger head football coach Bill Lynch said. "His work on bringing awareness of Type 1 diabetes has no doubt inspired many along the way and made their lives better."

"Football programs across the country do an excellent job of giving back to their local communities and helping those in need," states AFCA Executive Director Todd Berry. "The 2018 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team honors those select few student-athletes and one head coach who go above and beyond in the service of others."

"It goes without saying how excited we are to recognize this diverse group of student-athletes and honorary head coach for their unwavering commitment to serving others and making a difference in their communities," said Dave Prendergast, president of the eastern territory for Allstate. "Our goal for this program is to shed light on the often unnoticed and unrewarded acts of kindness off the field. Whether it's serving as a mentor for local youth or donating time and energy to raising awareness of social issues, these young men are setting an outstanding example in the football community and beyond."

Still to be selected is the the 2018 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team Captain.  You're invited to vote here through November 23; the team captain will be honored at this season's the Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN
